HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TO BRAZIL |

OVER THE YEARS (by Sam Finley)
-
God
has blessed me more than anyone I have ever met! Since 1986,
my first trip, hundreds of people have received Jesus!
Sports Reach is a wonderful vehicle to travel in! In one
country alone, 254 souls have been added to His kingdom!
In August 2001, our basketball team was in a very remote village.
There was a barber/beauty shop in our hotel and we were
offered free shampoos and haircuts. All the people there
wanted to practice using their English language skills.
I was offered a shampoo, then I was told I could us a haircut. The
owner said her husband would cut my hair.

enjoyed the fans. He liked being able to go new places. He
savored many memorable wins and agonized over painful
losses.....

64 Children, K-5, attended the Sports Reach basketball
camp at Severns Valley Baptist Church in June. The camp
had an emphasis on learning the fundamentals of the game
in a Christian atmosphere. Each day, a coach would share
a devotional about a different part of the Plan of
Salvation. On Thursday, 5 children invited Jesus Christ
into their hearts. It was a great week.

PRISON
MINISTRY IS "MOTIVATIONAL" (by Natasha Smith,
Hattiesburg American) - Oak Grove resident Tommy Stauter
had been involved with sports ministry for a while, but
the former high school baseball player's perception of
where he needed to minister changed in 2000.
"I had never heard of prison sports ministry until then," Stauter said.
Stauter visited a New Jersey-based program and decided to create a local
program. Now, Stauter is the director of
Mississippi Sports Reach...

READY
TO SHARE (by John Kinney) - Hello from the great
state of Alabama! It's hard to believe that spring is
already here. As the weather warms up so does the
anticipation of getting on the field and in the prisons.
My role has become strictly administrative because of 2 knee
surgeries and a shoulder surgery within 18 months.
that hasn't diminished the desire to go into the prisons and
share...
