CAMPS
AND CLINICS - A GREAT WAY TO MINISTER - Each
Summer, Sports Reach leads sports camps and clinics in
various local churches throughout the U.S. These
churches take advantage of the expertise of various
leaders in basketball, soccer, baseball, and golf to
teach local children sports skills and hear about Jesus
Christ.
It is the purpose of Sports Reach to be a partner
of the local church. Sports Reach will come to the
local church to partner in reaching a specific area with the
Gospel. At a camp, usually for K-6, emphasis is placed
on teaching the fundamentals of a sport in a Christian
atmosphere. These camps are usually 3 hours per day in
length and go for 5 days. Each day, there is a time
set aside to share devotion with the campers. At most
weeklong camps, campers receive a cap, t-shirt, water
bottle, ball of the specific sport, and a sports Bible.
On one day, there is a full Gospel presentation shared with
an opportunity for children to respond. On the final
day, the 30 minutes is set aside for a "Parents Day."
This is an opportunity for the parents to see what the
campers have been learning each day.
In addition to the weeklong camps, usually held in the Summer, Sports
Reach leads two day basketball clinics between Christmas and
the beginning of the New Year. These clinics are
designed to help get the players ready for the upcoming
season as well as giving something to do during the holiday
break. Along with the fundamentals being taught, there
is a devotional time each day to help the campers in their
spiritual lives.
Finally, during the Men's NCAA Final Four, Sport Reach works with a local
church and leads one or more one day clinics. They
will bring in several Christian college and high school
coaches to lead the clinics.
