WHAT CAN SPORTS REACH DO FOR YOU? |
|
In a world that is becoming more
resistant to traditional efforts of ministry, Sports Reach
attempts to go where traditional evangelism has not been
effective in reaching the unsaved. In prisons,
schools, churches and international competitions, personal
testimonies and a clear Gospel message is presented in a
sports setting and used successfully to share Christ with an
unsaved world.
Sports are a major part of our world's culture and touch a greater
segment of the population each year. Sports Reach
capitalizes on this aspect of our society to share the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. In addition, this ministry
attempts to identify those sports-minded individuals in the
local church whose gifts and abilities are aimed in thi8s
same direction, and we then train them to use those gifts to
bring others to Christ. We attempt to help these
individuals understand the talents that God has given them
and then show them how to use their gifts effectively
through churches and ministries like Sports Reach. |

Sports
Reach operates under two basic principles: One is that
sports provide a platform or avenue to share the Gospel that
might not exist otherwise. The second comes directly
from Romans 12:6 - "We each have different gifts according
to the grace given us... let him use them in proportion to
his faith." Sports is certainly not the traditional
idea one might picture when thinking of sharing the Gospel,
but we each have different gifts, and we are called to use
them.
Organized as the Kentucky Baptist Sports Crusaders in 1986, this
non-denominational ministry underwent a name change as the
goals of this effort became much larger. In 1995,
Sports Reach was adopted as the new name.
The Crusaders were founded by Larry Pursiful, former University of
Kentucky All-SEC basketball performer, and Robby Speer,
current Executive Director. Since the inception, teams
have been taken into 18 countries on 5 continents and into
26 states by using basketball, fast-pitch softball,
slow-pitch softball, soccer, baseball, volleyball, and golf. |

HOW IS SPORTS REACH FINANCED? |
Sports Reach is a 501c3 non-profit and
non-denominational ministry. It relies on
contributions from individuals, churches, and groups to
make it work. The finances are under the direction
of the Executive Director in conjunction with the Board of
Directors.
